Moyes to sign new deal at Everton

Everton manager David Moyes will sign a new long-term contract at Goodison Park after talks with chairman Bill Kenwright, BBC Sport understands.

Moyes has 12 months remaining on his current deal, but wanted assurances on this summer's transfer budget and the club's future direction.

It is believed a deal is close to being sealed after discussions and Moyes will now start working on transfer targets.

CSKA Moscow's £18m-rayed Brazilian striker Jo, 21, is on Moyes' wish-list.

Moyes submitted an ambitious five-year plan to owner Kenwright designed to build on Everton's fifth-placed finish last season. That has now been signed off, clearing the way for the manager to put pen to paper on a lengthy extension to his contract worth a reported £50,000-a-w

The funeral of Celtic legend Tommy Burns will take place later in the east end of Glasgow - five days after he died from cancer aged 51.

The funeral cortege will make its way through Gallowgate and past the stadium before heading to Linn Cemetery.

Tommy Burns was treated for skin cancer in 2006, but the disease returned earlier this year.

Since his death was announced last week, the outside of Celtic Park has been turned into a shrine.

In a statement, Celtic said: "The space limitations of St Mary's Church in Calton are such that very few Celtic

Captain Michael Vaughan said England needed to improve after being held to a draw by New Zealand in the first Test.

New Zealand were in trouble at 120-4 but Jacob Oram's century and more bad light kept the three-match series level going into the next Test on Friday.

"We knew we'd have to hold our chances, we created a few opportunities but weren't quite good enough," he said.

"But there were lots of good things and if we improve a little bit more then the next Test should be good."

England had a scent of victory when dynamic New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum retired hurt with his team 120-4 - only 78 ahead - with around 60 overs left.

"That was the moment where we created the chance to go on and win the game but it didn't go quite to hand," Vaugh

Trevor Graham, the coach at the centre of the Balco doping scandal, is being used as a scapegoat by athletes who were caught doping, says his lawyer.

The claim was made at the start of his trial on charges of lying to federal investigators about providing performance-enhancing drugs.

If found guilty, Graham could face 15 years in jail.

"He's being used as a convenient scapegoat for their past mistakes and drug use," said attorney William Keane.

These prosecution witnesses have biases against Mr Graham. They have self-serving agendas that have led them to make false accusations a
