 After a late night in an Atlanta recording studio, the croak in Lil Wayne's voice is especially noticeable. A little more than two weeks ago, the self-proclaimed and highly co-signed "best rapper alive" told a frenzied crowd in Richmond, Va., that he wasn't the "most happiest man," and his monotone is testament that not much has changed since.
If you know Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., you'd know his disposition isn't because of the all-nighter he just pulled, during which time, among other things, he toiled with rapper Ludacris and former-cohort-turned-nemesis-turned-collaborator, Young Buck -- more on that later.

 For the last three weeks, the Black Angels' sophomore "Directions to See a Ghost" has experienced about the same numbers of sales each week as it did when it first hit the shelves. Surprisingly, too, those sales were all made outside of the Big Box system – no Targets, Wal-marts, Best Buys and so on. Peaking thus far at No. 23 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart, the album's sales and popularity is a testament to what the band has garnered over the last three years: a growing, consistent fanbase willing to go out of their way to specialty shops, online retailers and live shows.

For British tweens right now, "well lush" (rough translation: "My, what an attractive young man") is perhaps the ultimate compliment. Trouble is, at a time when much of the old British pop infrastructure ("Top of the Pops," Saturday morning kids' TV, Smash Hits magazine) has been axed, there's been a distinct lack of pop hunks upon whom to bestow the epithet. Which is why much of Avril Lavigne's crowd of 20,000-odd primped-up "punk" princesses are reacting to the opening band like they've just taken hormones.

 At first viewing, 19-year-old Adele Laurie Blue Adkins' performance last August on popular U.K. music program "Later... With Jools Holland" is the picture of composure and grace. Only after repeated viewings can a viewer catch the occasional glances of awe and panic in the young woman's eyes, as well as the palpable sense of relief as she finishes the song to loud applause. Her slightly jangled nerves are understandable; after all, how many teenagers would be cool and collected sharing a stage with Björk and Paul McCartney, let alone a teenager who had just signed a record deal a few months before?

 Right now you're on tour in Europe, opening for Avril Lavigne. How are the European fans treating you?
Joe: The show at the O2 Arena was amazing last night. We've been hearing so much about it since we came here last time, so we were definitely ready to go and play it. The response was amazing. What was so cool was that it's all still fresh and new ‹ it's nice to meet the new fans...it seems like one by one there's a few more people showing up at the venues, and few more people waiting outside of the hotel. It's really cool and really exciting. It's really fun and we're looking forward to the rest of the concerts.
