The Feeling Is Universal for Spielberg (E! Online)
Los Angeles (E! Online) - Steven Spielberg phoned home, and home answered.

With DreamWorks and Paramount failing to keep their corporate partnership alive, the filmmaker and former DreamWorks chief executive Stacey Snider have hitched their shingle to Universal Pictures, the studio which offered up early Spielberg classics such as Jaws and E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial.

The initial deal is for seven years and could include up to six movies a year.

Universal has been serving as DreamWorks' international distributor since Spielberg founded it with Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen in 1994. While Paramount retains the right to distribute some of the new-look company's projects, global distrib

Cheadle replaces Howard in "Iron Man" sequel (Reuters)
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a surprise move, Don Cheadle will replace Terrence Howard as Robert Downey Jr's best friend in "Iron Man 2," the sequel to the superhero saga.

In the Marvel Studios summer smash, Howard played Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man's future armor-clad hero War Machine. One scene featured Howard looking at a silver suit of armor and saying "Next time," a line that caused great delight for fans.

But there will be no next time for Howard.

Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons. Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to

High School Musical Cast: It's Sad to Be Grads (E! Online)
Los Angeles (E! Online) - Over three years, three movies and 33 songs now, we've kinda gotten attached to Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and the rest of the merry gang of singing high schoolers. And they've kinda gotten attached to being the HSM kids.

To hear them talk about the "very emotional" last day of shooting High School Musical, it actually sounds a lot like leaving real-life high school and trying to figure out what's suppose to come next. Except these kids have a couple million dollars and perfect hair.

At a press conference Sunday, director Kenny Ortega described that fateful last day as kind of a mess: "The entire cast, one at a time, started to crumble. We

"Eagle Eye" flies high at foreign box office (Reuters)
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Eagle Eye" bumped longtime champion "Mamma Mia!" from the top spot at the weekend box office overseas, in a transitional period before the major studios unleash their holiday-season wares.

The Shia LaBeouf thriller took in $10.7 million from 36 territories, 11 of them new. It opened at No. 1 in South Korea with $3.3 million, but only at No. 5 in Germany with $1.1 million.

"Mamma Mia!" -- which had led the field for five consecutive weeks -- is hardly fading away. The musical romance pulled in $8.3 million from 45 markets to lift its foreign gross to $390.7 million. The U.K. has contributed a hefty $125 million. The A

Political films can't compete with real thing (Reuters)
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - It's been a discouraging couple of weeks for those on the right. John McCain is lagging Barack Obama in the national polls. Sarah Palin is still firing up the Republican base, but she's gone from novelty act to punch line amid the broader electorate. And even worse, "An American Carol," a movie that proudly waves the flag, has failed to find traction at the boxoffice.

Two weekends ago, David Zucker's fractured political satire, which aims most of its barbs at the excesses of a Michael Moore-like director, opened in ninth place, attracting $3.7 million in 1,639 theaters. In its second weekend, the film dropped a steep 64 percent and has earned $6 mil
