Steve Carell recruited for "Brigadier Gerard" (Reuters)
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - "The Office" star Steve Carell could soon be polishing his French accent.

The comic actor has been attached to "Brigadier Gerard," Media Rights Capital's period comedy about a French soldier during the Napoleonic wars who is deluded about his level of bravery.

The project, being penned by "King of the Hill" writers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, is based on a series of short stories by Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle. Carell would play Etienne Gerard, a soldier who considers himself a gallant swordsman but whose actual skills often pale in comparison to his own conception of them.

Those familiar with the project said i

Ryan O'Neal, son charged with meth possession (AP)
MALIBU, Calif. - Ryan O'Neal and his son, Redmond, were charged Wednesday with possession of methamphetamine.

Both face felony drug possession charges, deputy district attorney James Garrison said. Redmond O'Neal, 23, also faces misdemeanor charges for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of pepper spray.

He and his 67-year-old actor father are scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 13.

The father and son were arrested Sept. 17 after deputies searched their Malibu home, part of Redmond's probation. Police said drugs were found on Redmond and in Ryan O'Neal's living area.

Ryan O'Neal's attorney said the drugs did not belong to his client.

"It's unfortunate because Ryan O'Neal didn't po

Jennifer Aniston's Night Out for a Friend (E! Online)
Los Angeles (E! Online) - It may have been Courteney Cox's celebration last night, but all eyes were on Jennifer Aniston.

Jen hit the premiere of Glamour's Reel Moments at the DGA building in L.A., where Cox's directorial debut—a short starring Laura Dern called The Monday Before Thanksgiving—was being screened, along with flicks directed by fellow first-timers Demi Moore and Kirsten Smith, a screenwriter.

If the press about her dinner dates earlier this week with one-time beau John Mayer was getting to her, it didn't show. Aniston was all smiles and, of course, her hair looked perfect.

However, she did avoid the red carpet by slipping through a side entrance just min

Review: `Happy-Go-Lucky' is hard to resist (AP)
Poppy, the perpetually sunny heroine of "Happy-Go-Lucky," finds that her beloved bicycle has been stolen from outside a London bookstore at the film's start. Not only is she not angry when she makes this discovery, but rather she says to herself, wistfully and with a wry smile, that she never even got to say goodbye to it.

The bully who torments his fellow students in the elementary-school class she teaches isn't a naughty boy to be scolded but rather a child in need of patience and understanding. And the homeless man she runs into while walking home alone one night isn't scary and potentially dangerous — he's just longing for a friend, like the rest of us.

That last example pushes the limits of what we

Review: `Secret Life of Bees' not the bees knees (AP)
"The Secret Life Of Bees" teases with talent. How can a movie populate a house with Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson and NOT give us a song?

Though the cast might suggest a musical, "The Secret Life of Bees" is an earnest, saccharine adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd's best-selling 2002 novel, brought to the big screen by director Gina Prince-Bythewood ("Love & Basketball").

The novel, set in South Carolina in 1964, came out of nowhere to sell millions in paperback, so this adaptation arrives with much anticipation from its readers. Of course, placating such ardent fans has doomed more than a few movies of beloved books.

The film stays close to the novel in telling the story of Lily Owens
