Here's a list of the four most money-related issues couple fight over from Quick and Simple:

Spenders vs. Savers -- He loves to splurge, you don't. Or vice versa.

Separate Accounts vs. Joint Accounts -- You disagree about whether the two of you should merge all of your money, and you feel threatened by the opposite point of view.

Kids and Financial Rewards -- Your husband thinks your child should get money for making good grades; you think that's paying your child just for doing what she's supposed to do.

Fiscal Infidelity -- You hide purchases from each other or keep secret accounts.

Here's a fact I found in the January issue of Money magazine:

57% of students are considering less prestigious colleges for affordability reasons.

It's an interesting piece of information, though it doesn't tell us if this is an upwards or downwards trend, though I'm assuming it's upwards -- that more and more students are looking harder at the costs of college before they decide where they should go.

And they should. In particular, they need to match the cost of college (and especially the amount of debt they leave with) with their potential salary upon graduating. To do otherwise (like leaving school with $100k in debt and a career that pays $20k a year) is to lock yourself into a long, long, long time of debt repayment.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

What he's really talking about is "walk away power" -- the ability of the potential buyer to simply walk away from the deal if it's not good enough. If you literally don't care about a deal/sale/whatever (or at least don't care so much that you HAVE to do the deal), you have a great advantage in negotiating terms, price, and so on.
