You2Gov offers services to partner websites

You2Gov, a political communication site, announced Tuesday that it will start offering its "Direct Democracy 3.0" service to organizations and businesses that want to add social networking features to their websites and allow visitors to contact their elected officials, as well as form online communities around issues, and stay up-to-date on relevant topics.

"We just watched the Obama campaign masterfully use the internet to raise record amounts of money, energize supporters, educate the public about the candidate, and get out the vote," said Alan W. Silberberg, CEO of You2Gov in a statement. "In 'Direct Democracy 3.0', organizations have the same opportunity to use technology to more effectively work with their members and customers.

Firefox extension brings Flash games to full screen

A new Firefox extension aptly named "Flash Game Maximizer" is a must-have for any Flash game enthusiast. It does one thing, and does it well: letting you toggle between standard- and full-screen modes on any game--regardless of whether it has been coded with such an option.

Considering that Flash games are hosted all over the place, and rarely with a ubiquitous user interface, you're likely to run into a good number of them that must be played in whatever space they've been given on a Web page. With Flash Game Maximizer, however, you don't have to worry about this at all.

Once the extension has been installed, you'll get a new button on the bottom-right corner of your browser that turns yellow when it detects Flash. Clicking it resizes the game to fit your browser window

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), which runs the Large Hadron Collider, previously suggested that the apparatus would be restarted in April, following maintenance. On Monday, however, it emerged that June would be the earliest possible date for operations to resume fully. It also became apparent that the cost of the repairs alone could be as high as $16 million.

The LHC is housed in a 17-mile-long circular tunnel nestled beneath the Swiss-French border in the Alps. It is designed to shoot streams of particles aro

Three hospitals in London were forced to shut down their networks Tuesday after being infected with a computer virus.

"Emergency procedures have been activated to ensure that key clinical systems continue while network access is being established. We have maintained a safe environment for our patients throughout the incident," a statement on the site for Barts and The London hospital system said.

"Manual backup systems are in use and we are in the process of restoring the computer systems with priority being given to the most important areas for maintaining patients services," the statement said.

The hospitals affected are St. Bartholomew's, the Royal London Hospital and The London Chest Hospital. The BBC quotes a sp

Tanya Vlach wants to turn her artificial eye into a bionic eye.

Three years after losing her left eye in a car accident, San Franciscan Tanya Vlach wants to make her artificial eye more useful: She's planning to put a video camera in her eye socket with the goal of having a bionic eye.

Asked in an e-mail what her inspiration is, Vlach wrote:

The Bionic Woman and maybe Bladerunner! Ever since I lost my eye I would fantasize about having a bionic eye. So I did research and I realized that as technology becomes increasingly smaller it seemed doable to engineer a miniature video camera small enough to put inside my acrylic prosthetic. And then finally I would have a device as close to an eye as I could ge
