The relatively two-dimensional GIS information is made so much more useful by supplementing it with enterprise-strength reporting, analysis, and performance management.
A common theme with many state and local government agencies I speak with is either already having, or working on implementing a Geographic Information System (GIS). Furthermore, most GIS implementation seem to be successful, which should present all sorts of opportunities not only to GIS vendors but also to vendors involved in business intelligence and performance management plays. Certainly, GIS vendors have tremendous opportunities to increase their penetration from a single department (such as Water or 311) into other areas including Police, Road Maintenance, Animal Control, Mass Transit, etc. However, the relativel |

Willie's "Getting the Most out of DB2 for z/OS and System z" blog.
If you're interested in doing data warehousing on the mainframe, then do I have the Redbook for you... "Enterprise Data Warehousing with DB2 9 for z/OS" (SG24-7637).
Let me know what you think of this one, I have a personal interest in its success.
Abstract (Copied directly from the Redbook site)
Enterprises look more and more to business intelligence to gain a competitive edge. Willie's "Getting the Most out of DB2 for z/OS and System z" blog.

Amazon's SimpleDB
Amazon is the 500 pound gorilla. The market leader in cloud computing also offers a very simple database called, appropriately, SimpleDB. SimpleDB is a name/value pair data store. It is non-sql and offers a very simple interface of Get, Post, Delete and Query. You create a domain which is sort of like a table or a worksheet in a spreadsheet. Columns, or cells, are called items and can contain multiple values per entry.
The overview from Amazon says:
Amazon SimpleDB is a web service for running queries on structured data in real time. This service |

From the "My other life chronicles" I have my first draft of my guide to House Concerts posted at MatthewMoranOnline.com. I've sent it to a few reviewers for clarity, spelling, usage, etc. But, time being what it is (an old bald cheater ~ Ben Johnson), I had not completed it and had a few emails asking me more about House Concerts - some from other songwriters but a two from Notes From The Toolshed readers who have an interesting in having me play. Cool!!! (download the guide from my house concert info page) I have one booked in Chicago for July and now wish to start more promoting and booking them. Check out the guide and other information - if you enjoy life music, supporting independent artist, and unique experiences, a House |
