911 call released in killings of 2 girls

OKEMAH, Okla. - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation hopes a 911 call will lead to help in solving the mysterious killings of two girls last month in Oklahoma.

OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown played an emotional 911 tape Monday in hopes of generating more leads in the case.

The tape was of a 911 call made by the grandmother of one of the girls. The grandmother could be heard screaming that the girls were dead and telling a dispatcher the bodies were on County Line Road outside of Weleetka.

The bullet-riddled bodies of 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker and 13-year-old Taylor Placker were discovered June 8 on a gravel road less than a half-mile from the house where they were staying.

Authorities say they have no suspect or motive in the killings.

By By Mike CelizicTODAYShow.com contributor

Casey Anthony knows who has her missing 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, but may have lied to investigators to protect the little girl, her mother and attorney said Monday.

“I know Casey knows who has her,” Casey Anthony’s mother, Cindy Anthony, told TODAY’s Ann Curry from the family’s home in Orlando, Fla. “I know Casey doesn’t know where they are right at the moment.”

Cindy Anthony said she might know more if investigators would allow her to speak with her daughter for more than a few moments. She has had one phone call with her since Casey was arrested last week for lying to investigators. She also said that a visit with Casey was cut short by police.

“I think my daughter loves Caylee so much that she will do

MAPLEWOOD, Mo. - Police armed with rifles surrounded a house with smoke pouring from its windows on Monday, after a gunman reportedly fired shots at emergency workers.

The incident began unfolding shortly before 6 a.m. in Maplewood, St. Louis.

At least two ambulances hurried away from the scene amid media reports that emergency workers may have been shot. Authorities were unable to confirm if whether or not anyone was hurt.

The burning house was believed to be that of the gunman, and authorities thought he was barricaded inside. Reports said a vehicle across the street also exploded and was burning.

Because of the threat from the gunman, firefighters weren't immediately able to put out the fire at the house or the vehicle.

Body identified as likely baby theft victim

PITTSBURGH - Authorities have positively identified the body of a woman whose uterus had been cut open and who appeared to have been pregnant, the Allegheny County medical examiner said Sunday.

Dr. Karl Williams, the medical examiner, said the identity of 18-year-old Kia Johnson was confirmed with dental records. She is from McKeesport, just outside Pittsburgh.

Johnson's body was found Friday in the Wilkinsburg apartment of Andrea Curry-Demus.

Investigators are trying to verify whether Johnson was the mother of a baby boy that Curry-Demus, 38, took to a Pittsburgh hospital Thursday. Police say Curry-Demus falsely claimed the baby was her own, then later said she had bought the baby.

"The uterus appeared gravid, which means that there had been a baby there," W

HEMPSTEAD, Texas - Texas police are searching for a man who slimmed down to escape from jail.

Authorities say Darryl Layne Norris, who is charged with murder, had been shedding pounds since checking into the Waller County Jail in April. They say he slipped out through an air conditioner vent less than a foot wide.

The jail noticed the 6-foot, 160-pound man was missing after performing a routine head count.

The 26-year-old and another man are charged with murder in connection with an April convenience store robbery. Police aren't sure if Norris is armed, but they say he is dangerous.

Authorities say "He could be anywhere right now."
