TINLEY PARK, Ill. - Police have released 37 seconds of a 911 call made from a suburban Chicago Lane Bryant store, hoping someone will recognize the voice of the man who shot to death five women during a botched robbery. Tinley Park Police Commander Rick Bruno said the call released Monday was edited to isolate the killer's voice. Only snippets of a man's voice can be heard during the 37-second recording. Most of the phrases are difficult to decipher, but at one point it sounds like the man says "I'm losing it" and "foolishness." "We request the media refrain from enhancing the audio for clarity purposes, as this may distort the voice of the offender," Bruno said in a statement. Authorities released another 15 seconds of the 911 call earlier this month. In that |

NEWARK, N.J. - The mother of a 7-year-old boy whose mummified remains were found in the basement of an apartment will not receive a $1 million payout from the state, an appeals court ruled Tuesday. Melinda Williams has no right to inherit the money from Faheem Williams because she abused and neglected him and his two brothers, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey found in a 3-0 decision that upheld a lower court ruling. Melinda Williams had sought Faheem's $1 million share of a $7.5 million settlement paid by New Jersey in 2006 amid charges of failures by its Division of Youth and Family Services. Instead, all the money will go to care for the surviving boys, who are in foster care. The brothers, Faheem's twin Raheem Williams, and 4-year-old Tyrone H |

BALDWIN PARK, Calif. - A man shot his mother to death after an argument, then went next door and killed a woman neighbor and a 4-year-old girl, authorities said. Two other children were critically wounded in the shooting Monday in this working class community east of Los Angeles. “This was a tragic event in a quiet neighborhood,” Baldwin Park police Capt. Michael Taylor said. The Los Angeles sheriff’s office said Tuesday that the suspect was in custody. His name and the names of the victims were not released. Argument before shooting? Police were summoned to the scene about 7:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man “standing in the street ... armed with a handgun,” Sheriff’s Lt. Daniel Rosenberg said. A search then led to the shooting victims. “We b |

CANTON, Ohio - A jury began deliberating Tuesday whether to recommend the death sentence for a former police officer convicted of killing his pregnant girlfriend and their unborn daughter. Bobby Cutts Jr. was led from the courtroom by sheriff’s deputies after the jurors began deliberations. The jury, which convicted Cutts earlier this month, broke for dinner and was to resume deliberations Wednesday. A sobbing Cutts appealed to the jury Monday to spare his life. He said he took responsibility for the deaths of 26-year-old Jessie Davis and the couple’s unborn daughter last June. Assistant Stark County prosecutor Dennis Barr told jurors Tuesday that the state had met its burden to prove that Cutts deserves to die. “Bobby Cutts deserves the maximum sentence allowed by |
