How do you manage the boss who seems unapproachable? I had one once. His office door was open but no one ever disturbed him. I was new to the staff but I noticed that he never came out of his office and no one went into it unless he called to invite them. I had a job that no one had had before. I needed to manage the boss' expectations of me so I made a list of what I saw as the priorities and asked him if we could discuss them. Surprise! He seemed delighted to see me and welcomed the discussion. Others who reported to him were amazed by my easy access but never did try it themselves. Everyone knows that having a good relationship with his/her manager is really important. Some managers make that easy for their direct reports. I read between 50 to 100 CVs per day in my job, so I thought I would offer some advice to those job seekers out there who are having trouble getting interviews for the roles to which they feel they are suited. I am not astounded any more because I see the same mistakes repeated daily, but when I first started in the recruitment business I was flabbergasted that one of the most important documents in a person's life was afforded such little care and attention. No real success. Self-actualisation is reached when you |

A recent CNN article explains well why a growing number of companies use brainteasers and logic puzzles of a type called "guesstimations" during job interviews: - "Seemingly random questions like these have become commonplace in Silicon Valley and other tech outposts, where companies aren't as interested in the correct answer to a tough question as they are in how a prospective employee might try to solve it. Since businesses today have to be able to react quickly to shifting market dynamics, they want more than engineers with high IQs and good college transcripts. They want people who can think on their feet." What are technology companies (Google, Microsoft, Amazon) and consulting companies (McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Accenture...) looking for? They want employees |

To have your own business often seems to be the ultimate. The grass is, however, not always greener on the other side. It is important not to be blinded by the potential rewards. Do you have what it takes? You need the right skills, determination, financial backing, etc. There are also several serious and potential fatal risks. The following tips act as a guideline before you start your own business: Make sure that entrepreneurship is for you. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. If you feel safer in your comfort-zone and are risk-averse the chances are that you are better off where you are - nothing wrong with that. Entrepreneurship needs passion, a certain amount of risk-taking and the motivation and dedication to succeed when everything seems to be against you.Understand the risk |
